5 Signs You Might Have a Cockroach Infestation
Jun 22, 2023

Cockroaches are one of the toughest pests to deal with, and they're unfortunately pretty common. The key to removing cockroaches is to spot them early. If you think you might need cockroach control, keep an eye out for these warning signs.

1. Droppings

Droppings are often one of the first signs of an infestation. You might not see any cockroaches in your home, but you've probably got an infestation if you notice any droppings. These droppings usually look sort of like ground coffee or black pepper, so they can be hard to spot.

2. Damage

You won't notice any real structural damage if you have a cockroach infestation, but there are other types of damage you might spot. White surfaces may become discolored by droppings and other stuff they carry around. If you notice these signs, take photos of them and show the evidence to a pest control specialist.

3. Cockroach Eggs

According to A-Z Animals, a female cockroach can lay up to 400 eggs in a lifetime. If you look carefully, you might be able to find cockroach eggs around your house. These eggs are usually tan, brown, or black, and they're shaped like a pill. Check for cockroach eggs in your pantry, cabinets, bathroom, garage, and even piles of wood you may have lying around.

4. Odors

Cockroaches are dirty, and they can eventually cause some pretty serious sanitation problems. If you notice an unusual odor in your home all of a sudden, you might have a pest problem. Cockroaches use a type of acid to communicate with each other, and you can smell a musty smell when they release it into the air.

5. Live Roaches

The most obvious sign that it's time to call cockroach control is the presence of live cockroaches in your home. Roaches usually like to hide in small cracks and crevices where they can't be seen, so they can be hard to spot. Take some time to look around household appliances, cabinets and pantries, and piles of paper or cardboard to see if there are any live roaches in your home.

Pest problems can make your home feel a lot less inviting, but you have the power to put a stop to your cockroach infestation. Is your home filled with red flags telling you it's time to call cockroach control? Contact us at Speedway Termite & Pest Control today to get the help you need.
